Axelrod had a good breakdown of it on CNN. Rubio's appeal is too broad and Cruz's appeal is too narrow. Rubio thought he could win the nomination by having every faction of the Republican Party like him just a little bit, but not too much. But he has no strong core of support to fall back on because no one group feels strongly about him.

On the other hand, Cruz has a strong core of evangelical support but almost no group outside of that core likes him. And because Trump beat him to the immigration punch, Cruz's core of support is even narrower than it should be. Cruz loses the college-educated evangelical vote to Rubio, but he loses the uneducated evangelical vote to Trump. So his voter base is specifically evangelicals who are smart enough to know Trump isn't conservative, but dumb enough to dismiss Rubio as a RINO.

Neither is capable of winning so long as the other stays in the race. One of them has to leave and it really SHOULD be Cruz because he doesn't have the momentum to beat Trump in the religious states that are so crucial to his campaign. Doesn't make sense for Rubio to drop out before Florida and blue state primaries. But Cruz won't pass the baton to Marco because he's an egomaniac.

By staying in this race, Ted Cruz is giving Trump the nomination.

American people are pulling away from the establishment types. Trump is saying what right leaning moderates want to hear. If he gets it and Hillary gets the dem nomination, I can see Trump really ripping into her.

Cruz leaving the race is going to give Trump a lot of those votes.

The sooner Cruz leaves, the quicker Trump gets the delegates needed.

im not right leaning at all. i just dont appreciate hillary acting like i owe her something

rubio is smart but he will sell out americans easily. he did it in florida while he lied about it. cruz is acting anti establishment when his wife worked for the government forever and goldman sachs. thats fine but dont act like you hate the government when your girl has been working for it for ten years or whatever

They actually support Trump more for their second choice.

Poll: Trump leads, but when it comes to second choice, Cruz is on top
