It isn't quite as good but then again that's basically perfect for what it is and really hard to top. This is a little more laid back but after 4-5 spins, there's not one song on it that I don't like, and overall I'd say the highs aren't quite as high (pun intended), it's solid the entire way through. As beats I was totally floored by The Type, Double 07, and Full Metal. I was floored at Gibbs' verse on Scottie Pippen. But this one has a consistent groove the whole way through and there's nothing to not like about it.

I don't know just yet where I'll rate it among Alc's collab projects, but it's in the better half for sure.

I was the same way. When I heard Covert Coup announced I was confused why Al would use those Chemical Warfare/1st Infantry/Mobb/Lox style street joints on the guy that did Pilot Talk. But he didn't, and I think it was a big turning point in Alc's career, along with Gangrene, in terms of linking up with Oh No, getting out onto his brother Madlib, and making some new growth as a producer.

Speaking of Cigarette Boats, the fukking first joint on is so fire, as is the Styles P joint.

:banderas:

I went back and listened to this yesterday. totally forgot how goo this EP was.

Cuz of bars like these, which I can name example after example after example of just dope, vivid narratives he creates on every album. He has his own unique style. Who sounds like Spitta?

Borrowing ya big homie jewelry, shooting virals
Never wheeling them cars, just standing by em
Not really knowing them broads, just standing by em
No first class tickets, you just buy the stand-by ones

Hate to say it, but off a quick first listen this was pretty disappointing :patrice:

I came in expecting a grittier tape similar to CC, but it was a little too laid back. Gonna give it a :smoker: listen once I get a chance.

96 AMG is making it's way into my all time list of favorite Alc drumless loops. I got real tired of them for a while and it has to be a great fukking sample to pull it off. This is one of them. It's such a shame that Spitta only raps 12 bars on it.

I really wanna know if Black Rally Stripes is the same sample as My Homie by Schoolboy Q, or if RZA flipped the sample on Fat Albert somewhere in Wu's early catalog.

Spitta recorded 5 of these 10 songs in one day. Black Rally Stripes and Cartridge were the first two he did, and they're some of the longer songs. All his songs with Alc are short, but I wonder if he made some very short joints like 96 AMG and 500 Pounds of Gas last minute just to bring this to a nice and even 10 tracks.

I went back and listened to this yesterday. totally forgot how good this EP was.
Not that familiar with Harry Fraud's work but I really dug his beats on that EP.

Very big Spitta fan here, but I wish he would use TANM style more often bc boy can rap, but the 'slanging raps like it wuz dope' raps are starting to sound corny to me (AD5 fire though) ..probably the main reason why CSC album was fresh to me eventhough it was dumbeddown lyric wise.

Having that said CC > the Carrollton Heist.

i been waitin on this like 5 years and ill b honest, its nowhere near the classic that covert coupe is. But anyway its still got some heat id say my top 5 right now is
Black Rally Stripes, Smoking in the Rain, Mack Book, Fat Albert and Cartridge wit dissappearing ink as an HM.... Black Rally clearly the one song that is def. up to covert coupe standards both production and lyric/flow wise the others are arguable imo. Curren$y and ALC were two completly different nikkaz with a completely different hunger in 2011 when the first one drop so i guess i cant compare 2 much id give this a 8 upon my first 3 listens all the way through :yeshrug:
