This. Is. Pure. Bull. shyt.
On Saturday, Jan. 3, Utah Jazz D-League affiliate, the Idaho Stampede, held a contest at half-time promising a new tractor (yeehaw!) to the lucky fan who could knock down four shots in under 30 seconds.
Shot 1: The block
Shot 2: The free-throw line
Shot 3: The NBA three-point line
Shot 4: The half-court line
Standard pro-basketball filler entertainment, right? We’ve all seen this contest before, right? One would expect it to be pretty straightforward, regardless of the technological limitations of a minor league arena, right?
Nope.
Dude hit all four shots walked away without the brand-spanking-new $25,000 farmin’ machine. Here’s why…
[YouTube] The regular shot clock (above the backboard) was broken along with the horn. They had a make-shift shot clock and a non-audible horn. He said he looked for a shot clock but didn’t see one and he wouldn’t have taken the shot if a loud buzzer went off. Apparently he was about 2 seconds late. The whole stadium thought he had won and the crowd went crazy. Even the announcer by his celebration.
In the video below, you can clearly tell that the fan — whom we have yet to identify because he’s probably still in bed crying — had not been made aware of the exact amount of time he had left as he lined up the 47-footer. You also cannot hear a horn or a countdown. What you do hear, however, is the PA announcer shouting something to the effect of “Throw it” a second before he releases the ball. Apparently his time had already ended by that point.
Not cool, Idaho Stampede. Not cool. Give him the damn tractor you monsters.
