He was given credit for coming back early initially. The problem was that he still demanded the offense run through him even though he was ineffective because he wasn't fully healthy. That combined with the fact that you could tell that his effort itself was lacking. Even his own teammates came out speaking on the fact that Dwight was half assing it a lot of the time.

i really think it was the combo of him not being happy how he was used the fans saying he had no effort and kobe .....he really did not want to come to the lakers he never said he would commit....but he had effort you cant avg 12-13 rebounds not giving effort and he had to deal with players blowing by nash and kobe every set....and people would blame him and only him it had to be frustrating

I ain't saying he wasn't right to be frustrated. But as a fan it's hard to root for somebody you can tell ain't going as hard as he could. Some nights he would be motivated and close to dominant.

Dwight Howard was literally the main reason the Lakers were able to play Kobe Bryant last year. I don't think people realize how damn bad the Lakers defense was and the impact Dwight made on that end.

Howard's problem was that he was injured, he had no real chemistry with anyone on the Lakers, and he had to exert an absurd amount of effort to cover up his teams defensive flaws.

That being said, his lack of lower leg strength and lack of versatility mean that he's a type of player that either had to be built around very specifically or understand he's not a first option offensive player. He's definitely a star and his defensive impact is astronomical though.

People go far to either extreme. Either Dwight's a fraud or he's a beast who was railroaded by the lakers and their fanbase.

Truth is both sides are correct, partially. Dwight's stupid ass demanding the ball even though he is offensively challenged and gets stripped more times than he forgets to use a condom. On the other hand, he was playing hurt last year.

He will only contend once he accepts his role as a pure defensive anchor. The idea of surrounding him with shooters will only work temporarily. He's really not a good enough passer to not have that strategy blow up in the playoffs.

Bottom line, he's a great player who is offensively challenged but too mentally challenged to realize he's offensively challenged.
