Back in the day record labels would invest in media training for their artists, had publicists, artist development etc. They don't want to waste money on that today.

If he had made the initial comments and didn't say anything else (didn't double down, didn't apologize, just stayed silent)... would the backlash have been this bad?

They still would have came at him, but if he had just shut up and not said anything, I wonder would they be applying pressure like this?
