The Truth
As much as I Stan Hov' I believe Dame still has the business mind that knows how to make things move. I don't think he gets those same opportunities to do this with bigger platforms so he doesn't get the looks. But Dame is smart and he is the best mouthpiece you could ever want for a brand that is still an underdog. He always says the stuff that makes the overlords look dumb and hypocritical. I think he could whip Tidal in to shape on some Joe Clark shyt. Dame was always a fighter for the artist but knew how to use the machine to broker deals that put more bread on the table.
To keep it a thousand at a time like this, the hip hop industry is really at a disadvantage putting this guy on the sidelines and trying to give him washed up status.
It probably won't happen but Jay needs to put his pride aside and reach out to Dame and make him a partner at Tidal. It would be a win for the culture and probably give the company what it needs to have that real US vs Them branding they need if they wanna be the underdog, but still profitable.
The thing is I don't think Tidal should be as big as Apple Music or Spotify. I think it should play into it's niche status and really focus on the subscriber base and build that platform around who's paying. Up the quality of content , get better at selling that hi fi sound and stop wasting money chasing new subscribers by giving away the platform in free trials. By figuring out who's paying, you can hone in on them and then raise the price because those are the ones who aren't going anywhere.
Adding Dame just puts an edge that the people want and he can add in his expertise. He has good relationships with artists. People still admire him and he actually is good at coming up with content.
Make that call Jay.
