As much as I Stan Hov' I believe Dame still has the business mind that knows how to make things move. I don't think he gets those same opportunities to do this with bigger platforms so he doesn't get the looks. But Dame is smart and he is the best mouthpiece you could ever want for a brand that is still an underdog. He always says the stuff that makes the overlords look dumb and hypocritical. I think he could whip Tidal in to shape on some Joe Clark shyt. Dame was always a fighter for the artist but knew how to use the machine to broker deals that put more bread on the table.
To keep it a thousand at a time like this, the hip hop industry is really at a disadvantage putting this guy on the sidelines and trying to give him washed up status.
It probably won't happen but Jay needs to put his pride aside and reach out to Dame and make him a partner at Tidal. It would be a win for the culture and probably give the company what it needs to have that real US vs Them branding they need if they wanna be the underdog, but still profitable.
The thing is I don't think Tidal should be as big as Apple Music or Spotify. I think it should play into it's niche status and really focus on the subscriber base and build that platform around who's paying. Up the quality of content , get better at selling that hi fi sound and stop wasting money chasing new subscribers by giving away the platform in free trials. By figuring out who's paying, you can hone in on them and then raise the price because those are the ones who aren't going anywhere.
Adding Dame just puts an edge that the people want and he can add in his expertise. He has good relationships with artists. People still admire him and he actually is good at coming up with content.

Make that call Jay.

No, he wouldn't. Because Dame is self destructive and destroys everything he touches.

But I def agree Tidal could use a better direction. I used to work at a medical practice, and every year the doctor would send us to these wack conferences about how you could increase your patient total by 100% if you just follow these easy steps. They were always bullshyt gimmicks and wack business ideas. One year we went to a less expensive conference tho, and this dude presented an idea that the OP of this thread touched on. He said the money is in your practice. You gotta make sure you maximize the patients you have, make sure none fall through the cracks, and get them to bring their family members. Far less expensive and grand of an idea than any of the "get patients quick" schemes we saw in the past.

That's what Tidal needs. They aren't gonna beat Spotify. It's time to look at what Netflix is doing. Netflix recognizes what their audience wants - for instance true crime documentaries - and produces it. Tidal should be focusing on content that their existing subscribers want, beyond just "hey here's an exclusive Hov album out of nowhere." I don't know what that content is, since I'm not looking at their data. I'd love for it to include music documentaries though. B-sides from Hov and other artists as well.

I think one of the many Roc-A-Fella side projects Dame was thinking about was a iPod rival and eventually digital alternates to Apple.

Dame always has the ideas. Even Roc Nation Sports and other projects Jay has mastered were ideas Dame tried out on his own. The problem is that Dame thinks he can do everything on his own and he always wants 100% control over everything. It's one of the reasons why people can only deal with him in doses.

Jay doesn't mind ceding some control and bringing in other investors to collaborate which is why a lot of people around him have become super rich.

Even through the Roc days, people always seemed to underrate Jay's business savvy. He was in all those meetings. He was behind some of the decision making, and more so after the millennium hit.

Sure there are always some failures, but which entrepreneur is 100% successful?
