I really don't think it's that high overall,maybe just those that reported. If you look at a neighborhood like Jackson heights in queens, most people living there are living very modestly in cramped spaces working a lot of the blue collar and service jobs. If you look at flushing, just a ton of chinese people working blue collar jobs, lots of immigrants just scraping by.

My favorite subject. A couple of things to point out here

• (legal) Immigrants tend to do better economically than native citizens in general. This applies to all ethnic groups. For example most African and Carribean immigrants are better off economically than ADOS. The reason being is that it's very hard to immigrant here legally. So the ones that do, are often either the most well off, or the most driven from their home countries.
• Asians tend to cluster in northeast and West coast. While most blacks are in the south. The north and west are expensive but you get what you pay for as they also have the best education systems and access to the most high paying jobs. The south is cheaper which is why it appeals to black ppl, but it also has garbage schools, healthcare, and the lowest wages in the country.
• Education is hugely important to asians. Because they know it's the only way to go from lower class to upper middle class. A Chinese immigrant in NYC will live in a shoe box but will make sure their kids do well in class in order for them to go to an exam school and eventually an ivy. Then that kid will easily get a 6 figure job and move to a nice suburb and from then on they're pretty much locked into the upper middle class. I think this is the key. We should be doing everything we can to either live in areas with good school districts (and yes this probably means living amongst cacs) or the try our best to get our kids into top colleges. Also majors matter a lot. Our college attendance rates are actually pretty descent but we tend to pick trash liberal arts majors with low job prospects, instead of going the STEM route like asians do. So a lot of blacks end up graduating college with a shyt ton of debt only to work in a job that they didn't even need a degree for. Which fukks them over even more.
• The next point is that asians tend to be dual income households. There's numerous studies which prove that children just end up better when they're raised by both parents in a single household. In asian cultures, marriage is something heavily pushed and divorce is looked down upon and shamed. It sucks if you don't like the person but the end results don't lie. Looks at how Indians go ham for arranged marriages, and then look at what their rank is in the chart above.... It speaks for itself.
• Asians aren't afraid of multigenerational living. For one it gives married couples free childcare so they don't need to pay for expensive ass daycares. And two, when a person is done with high school/college, their parents don't immediately try to kick them out. They let the kid build their wealth and gain their footing. So they can start saving for a house and build capital without having to worry about rent. Also keep in mind the grandparents here, don't really work and if they do, it's low wage work like nail salons, or a Chinese restaurant. So these won't really be pushing the needle all that much.

Honestly the blueprint is right fukking there. Yeah WS will always be an impediment but there's nothing that the asian community does that we can't do.

This is on point. You described what my family did, lived in a tiny tiny studio in a shyt part of nyc with 6 people for 10+ years, saved money to buy a house, working 6-7 days a week, 13+ hours a day, emphasized education but we had 0 support being that we were immigrants and didn't know anything about government services or programs. This is a generalization but immigrants that come here especially from a poor background have a high tolerance for really shytty jobs and living conditions but it should pay off if they save money over decades.

i understand the whole idea of keeping your folks under one household to split the bills but depending on your household, it can create problems as you get older and want to have serious relationships/kids. With black folks its a dream but we also dont subscribe to things like strict policies on STEM studies in school, arranged marriages, etc.

I'm from Toronto and noticed how much culture is a huge impact in how a lot of immigrant minority groups mobilize to the western world. In some cases I've noticed folks like families from Ghana, Nigeria or most west African countries thrive by keeping the kids at home and contributing (but thats also my own experience in a small part of Toronto).

We get the most successful and educated people in other countries to move here. When they land, they instantly become american doctors, scientists, lawyers, etc. These are not average people. These are not refugees. This isn't NETWORKING, it is literally being the best and brightest in their home country, then coming to america so they can get more wealth. Simple as that.

We shouldn't be though. I don't forget what it is like to not have a lot of funds. Once I hit a point where I knew most people's, not just black people but most people's paychecks didn't look like mine, I knew and understood it. It's hard to compare immigrant groups because, one reason is that there is a selection bias.
A lot of them are top 10 % of whatever of their country when they move to the US, so with that culture and mindset they are structurally determined to be there. So the new ones arrive to communities, expectations, treatment and thereby mindset that already is "top 10%" or whatever.

If there instead were a bunch of Asian ghettos and the immigrants were from the mud they'd be more likely to end up there.

Indians with tech. But that was built up from Subways, Dunkin Donuts, and Corner Stores.

Filipinos with nursing.

Africans with livery services, pre-Uber.

We need to find our niche and build from that.

We could go back to our roots.

Some may take issue with it, and I get it, but historically we worked off the land and provided domestic services.

Building businesses off of that.

Cornering the farming market may be lucrative.
Or even the domestic services like Molly Maids.
Or in-house home health care.

These industries should, at the very least, be dominated by black folks. But I get it, most of us wouldn't want to touch them with a 10 foot pole because of perceptions. However, the services are still in demand.

Only niches we have is nail tech, barber, hairstylist, nurse


So I think we should inspire more men to join nursing. My sister just graduated college and they already have her a job starting 30 dollars a hour. It’s a male deficient field so they will pay more for a male nurse

Because ADOS doesn’t have a home country to immigrate from with communities built to give the newcomers a vast head start.

Also I have an Indian neighbor that’s a single mom but her 2 kids well into their late 20’s and graduated from college still live with her because they aren’t married off yet. Those 2 incomes plus her being a nurse brings that household wealth falsely up

You serious? Go anywhere there is a big tech or engineering company. Grew up near P&G headquarters and Indians are all over the place.
