It was a shytty year in college football there was like 4-5 good teams and than everybody else was garbage. Unfortunately 2 of those good teams (OSU, Stanford) dropped the ball cuz if they would of gotten in it would of been lit, Bama vs OSU and Clemson vs Stanford 
Honestly....you gotta make the committee ignore "fluke" wins. Like I thought that was the whole point of the new committee instead of having computers and polls because we can clearly see this shyt. Clearly OSU was a better team than MSU. Clearly Michigan should have beat MSU if their punter didn't muff a punt with 10 seconds left. How can you count that as a "win".

You will never get conferences or the bowls to remove all bowl tie-ins. You would end up in a situation where a non traditional power school does well one season and earns a trip to a decent bowl. But since there is no automatic tie in if that school doesn't travel well the bowl would skip them and select a much worse team because their fans travel well. The bowl committees are in the business of selling tickets and hotel rooms first and foremost, a competitive game is just a plus.
