Danny Ainge on Gordon Hayward: ‘This next month will tell a lot’

“He’s been so restricted,” Ainge said of Hayward. “You know, he’s been just biting at the bit to do more and more and more. And the doctors have been holding him back a little bit, just to make sure everything is all healed.”

The prudence with which Boston’s medical staff is proceeding is appropriate, particularly given the severity of Hayward’s injury. He’s progressing despite their reserved pace.

“Now he’s going to start running on the AlterG. And that’s a big step,” Ainge said. “And you know, he’s just taking more and more steps on the court.”

The fact that running without the full weight of his body is the next major hurdle for Hayward should be plenty to temper the expectations of those dreaming of seeing him on the court anytime soon. Exactly when that might occur remains one of the most intriguing mysteries of the Celtics’ season.
