Only because the movie was changed from the book. Celie got the girl in the end. Some time after Celie left Mister, they ended up having a real, equal friendship and he had to fall back and respect their relationship (Celie/Shug). This was the healing and transformation of the story, not Shug making up with her father (which never happened in the book).
