shyt is kind of sad. i love dave. he's now on this level where he's more of a truth speaker than a comedian. there was a time where i thought literally any word he said was funny. now his words have so much more weight to them and he's really only funny when he's off the cuff laughing mid joke. he's telling us the news now and at his age/point in his career i'm all for it.

He's like George Carlin now.

He basically black George Carlin but more bitter

Dude hasnt been funny haha in a while
I get the analogy but as a die hard carlin fan that was raised on him since 9 or 10 (my dad was fukked up :manny:) and as someone that saw him live, no one was more bitter near the end of their life than Carlin. His 2nd to last special, Life Is Worth Losing, is one of the most cynical and depressing pieces of art that’s ever been made.

Thankfully on his very last special in 2008 before he passed (RIP) he lightened up just a little bit and left the world with a few more laughs on his way out.

Dave isn’t nearly that bad yet. He’s just speaking harsh truths. And at least Dave is just talking and isn’t really trying to tell jokes that don’t land. Carlin framed a lot of his late era/depressing material in joke format, which made it even darker and less funny. His bit on suicide being wonderful is just brutal to watch.

I agree with you, he's not nearly as bitter as late career Carlin

I'll say I do enjoy Carlin-esque era Dave a lot, people complain about it but I can listen to Dave talk about damn near nothing for hours, his oratory skills ( :dame: ) are some of the best in human history, he can make anything sound absolutely fascinating. Not to mention, his views and mine line up quite a bit.

I’m with you on all that. Dave’s made me laugh enough for a lifetime. I’ve always thought he was an interesting cat way beyond what his original style of goofy humor might have you expect. I always thought he was different than a lot of the cats slightly older than him (like Chris Rock for example), because Dave seemed more like a goof ball silly stoner type, and he almost looked like a cartoon character. He had some social commentary material but it was always in service of laughter first.

To me the shift from Half Baked era Dave to now makes him “just talking” that much more poignant. His ability to control a crowd and seamlessly weave stories together is unmatched.

I’m fine if this is his career path from now on. But I’ll also say that his most recent Netflix special, Sticks and Stones, probably made me laugh out loud more than the previous handful.

So who knows. If anything I expect the unexpected with Dave these days.

Carlin (and Dave) wake up and fall outta bed funny. It's just they have gotten so good at what they do, that just being funny isn't enough, they have found a higher purpose and power in the court jester archetype.

Like the 'kick her in the p*ssy" bit lets you know what time it is with Dave lol, jokes are too easy.

Really? Sticks and Stones wasn’t funny? The crowd control he had in that special was incredible IMO. The whole Juicy Smoolyeah bit was hilarious. Not to mention the LBGTQ car ride. Eh, to each his own I guess my brotha.
