Dave Chappelle returns to co-headline Funny Or Die's Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival - CBS News

It's no joke -- Dave Chappelle is returning to the spotlight.
Following a lengthy hiatus, the notoriously reclusive funnyman is set to serve as one of the main acts in a multi-city stand-up tour this summer.
Chappelle will join satirical musical duo Flight of the Conchords as the headliners of this year's Funny or Die Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival. Additional acts will include the likes of Demetri Martin and Kristen Schaal, who co-stared on the Flight of the Conchords' HBO series.
It's been quite some time since we last saw Chappelle in action.
The 39-year-old entertainer first landed roles in the 1990s with parts in movies like "You've Got Mail" and "Half Baked," but he didn't achieve widespread fame until the launch of his hit TV sketch series "Chappelle's Show" on Comedy Central in 2003.
"Chappelle's Show" became a break-out hit for the cable network with its over-the-top skits parodying race relations and pop culture. Chappelle received two Emmy nominations for his work on the series.
But in the middle of production on season 3, Chappelle abruptly quit his wildly successful program after citing differences with network executives. He spent some time in Africa before settling down on a quiet rural residence in Ohio. "Chappelle's Show" aired its last new episode in 2006, the same year the comedian's "Block Party" documentary made its way into theaters.
He's kept a very low public profile ever since, making only sporadic stand-up appearances during this time. This summer's upcoming comedy tour will be Chappelle's biggest gig in seven years.
The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival will run from Aug. 23rd to Sept. 22nd. Tickets go on sale this Friday, check here for cities and dates.
