Bottom line is he's right. Money has never made art better. I would say it made it worse. If art is created and distributed solely by an artist, it is raw talent, undeterred by deadlines and selling to a particular audience. Just an interpretation of life through an individuals perspective.
Since it has become a business model, an artist has to conform to more popular, similar artists in order for the business to push them. This compromises the artists' art and forces the artist to produce what he/she doesn't want to make in order to keep money coming in. In essence, whoring themselves out.
And because hip-hop has become more swag driven, you have premier lyricists attempting to sing and ride waves just to get a little recognition. I mean you got real live hoes on top of the charts (you know me, Cardi B, p*ssy poppin on the charts).
Because of the society we live in, everybody's a ho to some extent. Corporations ho themselves out for stockholders. Workers having to spend less time with their families for their jobs. Lawyers compromising their ethics for a win. shyt is ingrained in our society.
