I am not up on this Battle Rap scene at all. I watched about 150 of em back when the sh"t first started but I'd rather hear niqqas FREESTYLING (read: flowing off the top of the dome) to a beat.
SOHH this vid touched me in a way that this type of thing normally doesn't. For a while I was thinking niqqas was trolling- like with the gat under the pillow - but it started to grab me when he was speaking on everything they'd lost. I'm still skeptical, cause that's just my default, but whatever this was it was compelling. If this is all real then I feel kinda sad for H.E.R. This is one of the last shreds of Real Hip Hop.
Hip Hop was the therapy that helped street cats resist bashing each other's wigs... ya know... back inna day. It was always aggressive but then we respected the lil niqqa that was nicer than us. I stood in cyphers with grown hooligans when I was a freshman in hig school. All they EVER did when I was really spazzin out was give me props afterward. Most of the time I was around niqqas that I could learn from anyway so I had to scrap (on the mic) for any recognition. It's like music programs being cut in public schools: the artistic kids will have no outlet or worse get out there and try and have someone wack get mad and hurt them. *sniff*
It's fukcing art. No one should be rapping about blasting the other rapper. They should rhyme about their style being a squad of assasins chopping your style into bits. A subtle but important distinction. Iono Breh... maybe they should box it out to diffuse this sh"t. That always seemed to work before everything got so crazy.
