skills has NEVER been a factor in rap though. it's always been about who could "move the crowd". look at kurtis blow and the sugarhill gang. they weren't lyricists. most rappers are not lyricists.

Yep, even in the revered 90's Coolio was selling 5x more than Nas...Tupac the most succesful rapper of all time etc :mjpls:

Biggie wanted to sign Capone but not Nore...

Missy Elliot didn't want Styles P on "It's All About The Benjamins"...

There was a time when being "NICE" was important in hip hop...A time when rappers didn't want to sound like every other rapper in the radio...

A time when Mobb Deep had a different sound from the Wu Tang, who had different sound from ATCQ, who had a different sound than Outkast, who had a different sound from the Death Row boys, who had different sound than Bone Thugs N Harmony...

And all these different styles were eating...But today, if DJ Mustard is not making your radio single, then forget about it...
