Not on the scale of this situation but I had an Aunty do the same to my grandparents. Basically stole over 12k out of their savings to spend it on material sh|t and blamed depression for why she did it.

My gfs friends family did the same sh|t as well. One son persuaded his father to sell his property over in London so that he could pocket the money. He then spent it on (you guessed it) material sh|t which he has got nothing to show for.. he’s now trying to get his other siblings to sell the property the grandfather built over in the Caribbean to pocket that money too!!

All that generational wealth gone because of one selfish and shortsighted individual and weak enabling family members

Friend of mine had a cousin who was taking care of their grandmother. Grandmother ends up in the hospital (in part because of their shytty care) and the cousin and her mother (my friends aunt and the daughter) dress up like the grandmother and call her lawyer or whoever handles the will pretending to be her to edit the will so only their side gets all the money. And it wasn’t even that much money (~$20kish). And when the grandmother died all my friend and her side wanted was for them to use some of the money to pay for the funeral and they can have whatever is left. And they still were too greedy to agree to that. I believe they ended up in court but I forget the outcome.
