I'm actually in favor of pushing for longer school years.

Son, school shootings will spike up. Imagine having a teacher that you hate for 10-11 months out of the year? In the summer time where AC is limited, on top of that?

not true breh. the following information was obtained from http://www.infoplease.com/world/statistics/school-years.html
*Australia = 200 day school year beginning in late January and ending in mid December
*Brazil = shares the same summer as Australia school days, which is Mid December to Late January
*China = September to mid-July
*Costa Rica = February to December

School shootings for those 4 countries gathered from http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html
Between a period of 18 years, here is the school shootings for those countries
*Australia has had = 0 [1996-2015]
*Brazil = 1 shooting in 2011 (a 23yo returned back to his elementary school and killed 12 kids) [1996-2015]
*China = 0 [1996-2015]
*Costa Rica = 0 [1996-2015]

now, here is the following statistics for North America. taken from http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/pss/tables/table_2004_06.asp & http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html ;
*North American school days
  • Elementary = 179 days
  • Secondary = 183
  • Combined (Schools implementing both Elementary & Secondary) = 181
*North American school shootings
60+ from 1996-2012

I do not think it's the increase in school days which contribute to the actual school shooting but it's the way children are raised. us as a country tend to send conflicting messages to the masses. we penalize violence but yet every fashion of our society promotes and consistently shows violence as a 'norm'. longer school days do not automatically hint at a rise in school violence.

Well, those countries don't have much guns compared to here. Try that in a country where we have incompetent teachers, with mass availability of guns. Imagine going to school without AC in the middle of summer? Cause schools here are underfunded. We should be more focused on more effective teaching, and less concern about extending the school year.

too bad South America has an issue with gun crimes, also too bad that Brazil is one of the countries with a major gun issue.

again, gun availability means nothing nor does the competency of the teachers. gun crimes happen in america based on completely different factors. I think you're wrong and presented evidence to prove such. :yeshrug:

HE doesn't respect humanity. Imagine kids getting hit with schoolwork year round and never getting the chance to explore the world or to see their relatives abroad? shyt like that is why I favor home schooling if you have enough finances and clout to do so.

I actually agree with @Napoleon

Even according to Qur'an, you're supposed to go about your regular business during the holy days. This just smacks of "me too!, me too!" bullshyt. Besides Muslims can't even agree on what day Eid falls on half the time.
