Now we see why Mass Appeal didn't have merchandise. And funny to see Paul in this but without any credits on the album that we know of! (He may be executive producer or something.)

Prince Paul is still doing an album with them. Not sure what the time frame is for it though.

I'm not as in love with those as some of y'all, and I'm a huge fan of the first three albums - that's a top 4 3-album run for me, competing with Cube/Ghost/Pac and nobody else.

I'm also not saying this album is necessarily better than those, I just think this feels more like the De La that I love --> is probably how I should have worded it.
Yeah, I love those albums, but there was a bitterness at times that wasn't what I loved from them. I get it and they're only human, but I didn't like that they felt that way and that it seeped through at times.

They don't seem that way anymore despite losing Dave, when you could see them maybe sink but instead they, ahem, are rising above.

I'm disappointed that Dave doesn't have more verses on here. I was thinking he'd be on most of the songs. I've never been a fan of posthumous albums so I respect they didn't slap some Dave vocals on here and just kept the songs they recorded together. Just wish they had more songs together because they compliment each other perfectly and their chemistry is what made De La special. This feels like a Pos solo album at points but he's sharp as ever so salute to him for holding it down.

With that out the way this album has some of the best production I've heard in a while. Quick 16 is probably favorite beat 2 listens in. Peter Rock is still Pete Rock. He needs to get more placements and full albums. He's incapable of falling off. Premier felt like the old Premier but The Silent Life of a Truth beat I'm not feeling at all. EN EFF and Sunny Storms are my shyt. I've been running them back the most and I'm hoping that's the quality of production he gave Nas.

This is the best Legend Has it album so far. I'd say 4.5 mics. Of there was more Dave and it was a little shorter or could've been close to a classic.

Oh yeah, I wish Mos had a feature.

i really like 'just how it is'. i think that joint could be top 40 just like 'me myself & i'

i might be telling my age but YUHDONTSTOP reminds me of a rankin and bass special lol

a little bit disjointed as an album but all the songs are great. except 'will be', which is all right

Also the reason some of us are surprised is cuz i'll be the first to admit i'm not familiar with De La's catalog. I felt they we're overlooked with the explosion of the SUPER MCS like BIG, Nas, Method Man, Hov, Mos, etc. in the 90s, which is when i started listening to hip hop. De La kinda got lost in the mix to me as a kid so i really didn't go back and listen to their catalog EXCEPT when they dropped the song with Redman "oooh" that was my introduction to them and when "Good burger" used their song "Me myself and I". But being that i had my fave rappers already and Pac calling them soft, i really didn't feel the need to hear them out. Wasn't till recently i started digging into their stuff "stakes is high" being one of my favorites. Also the fact it took them this long to drop another album (out of sight out of mind will have you forgetting them) and this was the first time i listened to them release an album in REAL TIME, yeah, i'm blown away as a mature adult. :yeshrug:

Facts.

I've said the same a lot over the years, on here. When they stopped being "a-list" in Hip Hop (in their own minds), they became bitter, angry and randomly started dissing the rappers that were successful. I didn't like that, even though I loved the Stakes Is High album.

This project is alright. Supa Dave has way too many joints on it. That's their dude though, so I get it. I think it's like 20 songs, and out of those, I probably like about 5-6. The Premier and Pete joints worked, and the Nas joint was dope. But away from those, I don’t know if I'll spin this a lot. I grew up on De La's first 4 albums and there was a magic and energy on those that their new sh*t is missing. I said it before on here, if De La's doing an album, I still think Paul needs to be involved.

RIP Dave.

Out of this series, the Mobb album is sadly the only one I really f*ck with.
