There really wasn't anything dean could do better than bret...but there were a lot of things bret could do better than dean.

:dahell:

How about all of the cruiser-weight type moves? I think Dean is >>> on that. Id also say that Malenko is slightly better than Bret at counters into submissions...and he had a much more varied move-set.

Bret is the better overall wrestler. Much more charisma, better on the mic by far, could have great matches with more types of wrestlers and could be the face of a wrestling promotion...but in terms of pure technical ability alone i think Dean has him. I think he outperformed Bret in that match btw..although they both played their role great. Bret did his classic story-telling and worked as a good heel...while Dean sold the fukk out of that injury the whole match and altered his moveset to the injury as well. dude used his off leg every time..did mainly moves to avoid too much pressure on the knee etc...

Technical wrestling department, Malenko wins hands down. Now telling a compelling personal story through wrestling, then it's Bret.

This. It was always easy to admire Malenko - as heel or face - for his abilities. But Bret hooked you in the feelings.

Dean Stinko can't lace Bret's boots. Look at how much more success Bret had, there's a reason for that.

Bret with another complaint
Bret Hart's disdain for Dean Malenko wasn't just professional—it was deeply personal. In November 1998, during a match on WCW Monday Nitro, Malenko executed a move that would forever alter Hart's career. According to Hart, Malenko dropped him crotch-first onto the top rope, resulting in a severe groin injury. Hart later revealed that this injury required surgery and kept him out of action for several months. What compounded Hart's frustration was Malenko's lack of acknowledgment or apology for the incident. Hart felt that Malenko's execution of the move was reckless, given his smaller stature, and that such a maneuver should have been reserved for larger, stronger wrestlers. This incident led Hart to lose respect for Malenko as a performer, viewing the match as overly rehearsed and lacking in authenticity. Hart's sentiments were echoed by others in the wrestling community, who noted that the move appeared more choreographed than competitive. Despite the controversy, Malenko continued his career in WCW and later in WWE, but the incident with Hart remained a notable chapter in both their careers.
