What you basing this assumption off of? If a record label aint promoting your album, and aint pushing it on radio, then its not a record label, its just some dudes taking your money. They literally bring nothing else to the table. Anyone can put their own album on itunes... labels would be truly running scared now, they literally bring NOTHING to the table...

Naw, labels are going to double down on promotion, its really the only thing that labels provide. Basically signing to a label is a way to get radio play, thats about it these days.

They really already ain't promoting a lot of artists.......There's a lot of shelves filled with people who celebrated getting signed.

Beyoncé can drop anything and sell a milly. She's Beyoncé and a ICON now.

Let Red Café drop an album tomorrow.....................................................................

lol as we've seen with Master P's latest release, the no promo album drop doesn't work for everybody...

which should be common sense, I mean it's Beyonce, her stuff will sell like hot cakes no promo or not.

I was thinking the exact same thing. if they are gonna not put any money into the promotion of the artist, then what exactly would be the point of being on a major label then?

That's the game these labels need to analyze. By the time you see someone "hot" on the internet blowing up they already done ate thru 9 minutes of their 15 minutes of fame. Labels really can only capitalize if they see it, sign it and make you drop an album within the next 30-45 days because anytime after that it's gonna be :snooze:

Labels are asking themselves the same question... and not giving anyone budgets or release dates until they come up with an answer :lupe:

Someone goes gold, thats like $5M. And thats not right away, that's over years. People are happy to go gold these days. How much money should a label really throw behind anyone? Truthfully if someone is a star, they kind of don't need a label. But then, the label doesn't wanna let em out of the contract, cause if they do blow they want to cash in. It's a hell of a catch 22 :ohhh:

Well the way I see it is, labels have to invest a little bit to keep the artists' momentum up. Pop acts like Katy Perry etc have whole teams behind them to help them develop and perfect their sounds. A rapper is basically on an island with some label head like "wheres my money nikka". So the rapper has to do everything themselves... develop the sound, generate buzz, shoot videos, develop industry relationships etc while a label just sits back and collects as the label is too scared to risk losing an investment......

All the rappers on Def Jam should just put their own money together and collectively buy themselves out of their contract.....Def Jam aint doin shyt for these nigggas
