Which matters more in terms of employment and opportunities?

Me personally I think employers will always favor experience over degrees.
If Candidate #1 has a BS w/7 years experience and Candidate #2 has a Masters with 0-1 year experience, I'd say 8/10 #1 will get the job.

But I also think it depends on the profession field.

What do y'all think?

depends on particular scenario (eg not gonna let a doctor diagnose me without an md), but in general experience matters more (have friends in investment banking with history degrees and the ceo of my company majored in french).

Who gives a damn about a degree.

If I knew what I know now I would have never went to college and spent that time teaching myself how to code, got certs etc.

If I worked diligently and got internships I would have had a programming job within two years at most with no debt and time wasted at college.

And for those that want the college life so bad, go sit in a big ass lecture hall in the middle or back. Teacher ain't gonna notice whether your a student or not.

And you can go to college parties and all that shabazz without being a student either.

Obviously having both is the perfect combo. In a versus type thing its experience. Which is why if you're going to school, it's so important to get an internship your senior year or straight out of school.

It really depends.

Without a college degree your ceiling is usually limited ( even in fields where a degree isn't needed), plus you're blocked out of very lucrative fields ( finance, media, tech, etc). So I'll go with degree right now.

Having a degree gives you . you can have no experience but if you got let's say a masters in a field that is somewhat similar you will still get hired while with experience some jobs are now requiring degrees regardless to if u been on the job for years.

That depends.

Right out of school, a degree and GPA will have some emphasis but experience will defiantly play a major factor. But after a few years, experience is the most important thing.

Now when it comes to professional careers like law and medicine, a professional degree is an absolute must if you want the job for consideration.

It depends. I work in IT and experience is key but I'm currently contracting to one of the Big 3 automotive companies in Detroit and I have an opportunity to go permanent to the company, which is an automatic come up in the field but ALL their major IT position require Degrees regardless of how much experience you have :mjcry:

A degree will get you in the door, experience will take you further once you are in the door. I got my bachelors and was like "fukk getting a masters". Just did my job well, networked, got my experience up, and now I'm an Asst. Vice President and got people with a masters answering to me.

They took two years out the game to get a masters, I used that two years to keep myself hot and gain experience :umad:
