Deliverance (1972): what would you have done??

so...
four guys take a canoe trip down the river
Ed (played by jon voigt) and Bobby (played by Ned Beatty) get ahead of the others
so they pull over to rest
& wait for their friends Lewis (played by Burt Reynolds) and Drew (played by ronny cox) to catch up

two inbred mountain men come along
take ed & bobby hostage at gunpoint
they culo blast poor bobby ("squeal like a pig')
and are moving in on Ed's mouth when Lewis and Drew show up

lewis shoots & kills one mountain man with his bow & arrow, but the other gets away

left to right: Ed, Bobby, Drew, Lewis (dead rapist in foreground with arrow in his back)

now they have to decide
what to do??
they can take the dead body with them, or leave it, or bury it
then they can report it to the authorities or keep quiet

also, they still have to finish their canoe trip safely
because the surviving rapist got away
he might get revenge, get help, or go to authorities himself

how would you have handled that situation??
do you see any other options they missed

deliverance was based on the novel by james dikkey
dikkey actually has a small part in the film (he plays the sheriff at the end)

anyway, in the book- bobby didn't put up any fight whatsoever
he just gave up the booty
granted he was being held at gunpoint
in the movie, at least ned beatty puts up some kind of struggle

okay, here's some extra stuff from the novel

-ed briefly considers killing bobby before they get back to civilization
-after ed kills the man on the top of the cliff, he searches the guy's pockets and discovers he is a deputy for local police

personally i think they handled it okay (bury the body)
but they made a mistake burying the shotgun with the body
i would've kept it until they got out of the woods

some people also say drew had a heart attack or stroke due to exertion/stress
