I have the Substack app on my phone and came across this post called "The Algebra Gatekeepers". The things white folks will do to keep their low performing children over high performing ones. Literal data showing non-white, non-Asian kids scoring high at math but being denied access to advanced math. While, low performing white & Asian kids are pushed into those classes.
Had a young breh, whose parents and church pastor fought tooth & nail to get him in gifted math classes despite the school fighting at every turn, graduated with an Econ degree from Yale.
I was lucky. A few of my teachers advocated for me while I was growning up. I do remember having to take the CAT several times because they though I was cheating & couldn't believe my scores. I literally had the principal hoving over my shoulder the last test & they never told my parents. I scored higher each time.
