When Denzel does take on more creative roles, fans don’t seem to support him.
“Fences” only generated 64 million in revenue. And that’s probably just because it’s a famous play that even at the time was successful on Broadway. To be fair 64 million isn’t nothing but it isn’t The Matrix either.
“The Tragedy of MacBeth” probably lost money. Even though it had Oscars buzz.
“Roman J Israel” lost money for sure.
Fans like Denzel in Training Day and Equilizer and other action movies and then whine that he’s become predictable as an actor.
