Definitely not on board with it and pretty much agree with basically the entire post.
It’s a symptom of everything: a bunch of loopholes everywhere leading to things being very complicated and confusing, getting in the way of efficient resources.
The thing is, if the US ran the govt like China - a lot of little people would get trampled - and those "externalities" cost others.
For instance, all the highways the Fed (and States) built in interstate expansion basically went through the hood and destroyed those places.
The knock on effects of destroying poor communities doesn't show up on the Dept of Transportation balance sheet - it shows up on Dept of Health and Human services and other places.
So it's a balancing act between the majority and the minority. Or since you're a STEM person, "tradeoffs".
Most of Fed programs, rules, and regulations don't just exist because folks like busy work.
The conservatives just want to pull government back from doing things ....and letting the problems just stay with "the people".
Toll roads instead of highways.
Private schools instead of religious schools.
No WIC or Food Stamps.
No medicare/medicaid.
No social security.
Just the very basics "necessary" to run a country...
What those basics are? No one knows. As soon as you define one - you have to start to talk about implementation and fairness.....and then you get all these regulations and complexity.
