I still think Stafford has some value as a starting qb for the Lions hopefully Grandma Martha keeps him around. When the Oline was decent Stafford was pretty good and I'll take that over what's realistically available out there at qb, We aren't getting a teir 1 qb so I'd stick with Matt unless there's a can't miss rookie in the draft. Connor Cook doesn't seem like that but who knows.fukk you nikkas and your feelings, I'm not trying to go back to the Dan Orlovsky and Jon Kitna days
Stafford is a great quarterback![]()
Stafford wasn't even due an extension for 2 years. It don't even help the cap situation to give him that extension then. This mfer gave Stafford 50 million extension after the lions lost their last eight games in 2012....on top of that he had no great drafts and several terrible ones
Lewand and his kicking the can down the road cap managementThe Lions are already paying him might aswell let him play out the season as a lame duck and get their money's worth.
THANK GOD! I do feel bad for Lewand, he was good at being a salary cap guru and getting players under the cap, that 11-5 season was in part due to his salary cap magic. But the Lions had to press the restart button on everyone, no hold overs.
Considering all the cap just Stafford and Calvin are taking Lewand did a great job retaining players, those restructure contracts he gave to alot of players kept the Lions competitive, it's not his fault they aren't being coached up. That Golden Tate deal was a great example of his work, granted the kicking the can method caught up with him it's not like there weren't positives from it.Lewand and his kicking the can down the road cap management![]()
"There's a lot going on with Matthew Stafford now ... he was benched earlier in the year which, for a franchise quarterback, never happens," Rapaport said. "I'm also told that Joe Lombardi, the former offensive coordinator, was frustrated that he couldn't put enough on Stafford's plate, did not think he was able to handle it, was not taking as much control of the offense as the coaching staff wanted.
"In fact, new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter actually had to simplify things for Stafford. All of which, in part, leads to the conclusion that Stafford's days in Detroit are very much numbered."
Stafford is the Lions' No. 1 overall pick from 2009, the first draft pick of the Mayhew era, and the Lions have spent considerable resources trying to build the offense around him. Stafford's career stats: 60.1% passing for 23,797 yards, 144 touchdowns and 96 interceptions. His career passer rating is 83.7.
Their biggest problem is that bum Stafford.
