Shocked neighbors watch Detroit cops brawl each other in botched undercover drug sting - theGrio
Neighbors were shocked when two different precincts of the Detroit Police Department ended up brawling each other in a sting operation gone wrong.
According to local news station Fox 2, special ops officers from the 12th Precinct were operating what is called a “push over,” in which police pretend to be drug dealers and arrest interested parties.
However, the customers turned out to be special ops officers from the 11th Precinct, who were ordered to the ground. The officers didn’t realize that they were arresting fellow undercover cops.
According to the news station, more special ops officers from the 12th precinct then arrived to raid a home, which sparked a fight between the officers from both precincts.
The homeowner repeatedly saw the whole brawl as punches were thrown and guns were pulled.
Top law enforcement officials have since been made aware of the situation, and internal affairs has been contacted. The officers involved are all now under investigation. One of the units reportedly had a body camera that captured what happened, which will be part of the internal investigation.
“You’ve gotta have to have more communication, I guess,” said a resident of the neighborhood where the brawl took place. “I don’t understand what happened about that – communicate.”
