they were sick of his shyt.
He didn't wanna move off 3B even though his defense wasn't great. The team felt like they had buyers' remorse giving him $330 mil just to hit. He didn't wanna move to 1B to make life easier for them after Casas got hurt. Now their 3 top prospects are all up so the Sox can sell the fans on the new core while deeping the rotation.
He’s ok with the dh but not 1b?
I forgot all about his contract and that makes the deal make some sense.
But, this was handled so bad.
They should've moved him to 1st a the beginning of the year.

Devers wanted no part of it
they also had a 1B at the time (Casas) but then Casas got hurt and was out for the year. The assumption was that Devers would be happy to take the field again but Devers been on some SMD shyt with them, so something had to give.
