So my decade old g37 has:
  • gasket leaks
  • flooded computer modules due to common sunroof leak going into the glovebox
  • rotten suspension braces
  • rotten ball joints
  • rotten braces
  • "excessive" oil leaks.
  • 120k+ miles
  • service engine soon light (it was off during the sell inspection for some reason)

I took it to the dealer and they said $4k+ in repairs and the tech pretty much came out and said just sell this shyt.

So I did. The same day to carmax...for $6K
Because of covid they couldn't put it on lift for inspection and only took it on a mile drive. on surface level car looks fine and idled fine. i probably get half that offer if anything if they knew full extent

i only did about a hour of research but that seems more than I would get even from a private sell given the condition. I know they can just try to flip it at auction but I think I came up here

6K for a 2010 G37 is cool
They going to sticker price it at 13-15k tho and that will be the sucker

yea that's why i was wondering if maybe they could tell and just didn't care knowing they can do repairs in house and finesses someone else

So its impossible to finesse carmax. Anything they offer you would be fair. There's no real spread for them. Congrats on getting a new car though breh.

i didn't even cop another car, had to get a ride home :russ:
Had two cars, so I got an accord but about to cop a lexus soon as the new 2nd whip

if you got a mechanic friend, have him work on the car to remove the engine light . Then trade it in? :yeshrug:

It seems like you did alright. If you sold that to anyone you knew, they're going to come back looking for their money back.

You could have paid the 4 or 5 k to fix it and not had to buy another vehicle. However once a car needs all that work at the same time it officially becomes a trouble maker that is not worth keeping. You get those things fixed other stuff will need attention as soon as thats done.

trust me, you didnt finesse them. they just paid you the trade in value for it. it will cost them a lot less to fix it than you. its a win-win for the most part. but why the fukk was it so raggedy? :dahell: you live up North or in a snowy climate??

The braces and suspension is normal wear I guess.
The gaskets and bcm damage is due to design flaw. Those are common problems on G37 going off an infiniti forum i'm on. the gaskets had paper seals for my year, got updated to metal later. and the bcm damage is due to a bad sunroof drain design where when the tube wears it drains into the glovebox which is over the module :snoop:
The engine and trans seem solid but those design issues kinda turned me off nissan products

:picard: that was a horrible series. I never heard of that many design issues from Nissan. I sell used cars. I have a lot of experience with Nissan personally and its also the car I buy and sell the most of. Although I never got into the G-series Infiniti.

thats literally what any dealership would give you. my girl traded in a decade old FX35 a couple years ago with a shot transmission that didn't go into reverse 75% of the time or get out of third gear for $5K.
you're not finessing carmax
