I'm just now realizing Nappy Roots caught a stray during Nelly and Chingy's back and forth

That jab was at record labels and execs, for cashing in on a wave that he created.
"They" all in Kentucky, was labels execs who signed, promoted acts and songs with Country up front.
Before the chart success of Country Grammar, they wouldn't have thought of those types of songs.

Nelly always talked about several labels passing on him and his group, and to see those same labels following him was funny to him.

I think you're confusing country with southern. The Midwest is probably more rural than the South. There's a reason people call the Midwest "Fly over" states
