Cuz the NFL thinks so...

“Listen, I think if you are any player and you think that based on this decision that it’s OK to go out and commit that kind of conduct, I think that is something that I would suggest to you that no player is going to go out and do that,” Birch said Monday. “So in terms of sending a message about what the league stands for, we’ve done that. We can talk about the degree of discipline, we can talk about whether or not third parties need to be involved. I would suggest to you that a third party has been involved in this matter and that was the court that reviewed it, the prosecutor that reviewed it. “But if it is a question about what the principle of the league is and what standards we stand by, that cannot be questioned. I think it is absolutely clear to all involved that the NFL does not condone domestic violence in any way and will not tolerate it in our league. I don’t know how you can reach a conclusion other than that although I certainly respect the opinion.” “The discipline that was taken by the NFL is the only discipline that occurred, with respect to Mr. Rice, in this case,” Birch said. “I think that, were he not an NFL player, I don’t know that he would be able to receive any punishment from any other source. “On balance, we reviewed all the materials, listened to the persons we listened to, took the input of the Players Association. When we looked on balance at all of that, we believe that discipline we issued is appropriate. It is multiple games and hundreds of thousands of dollars. I think that’s fair to say that doesn’t reflect that you condone the behavior. I think we can put that to rest

IMO, they did not send the right message. People aren't going to assume the NFL is anti-domestic violence with a 2-game suspension. Using the cop out of "he wouldn't even be punished in any other workforce" is bullshyt. The NFL is a national icon and the top league right now. Everybody looks up to them including kids. IMO 2-games sent the completely wrong message. Thoughts on the NFL copping out?

That's not what he said. He said "source" which I think is a hint at the legal system as well.

They shouldn't be using suspensions to illustrate their stances on issues anyways. The 'message' should be sent to the offender, and in a secondary effect, other players as a deterrent for them breaking the same rules. It shouldnt be to send a message to the rest of the world about how they feel about domestic violence.

Man this is how most people feel at this point. We really dont give a shyt about the length of the suspension, what Stephen A said, or this punk ass controversy. We just want to watch some football. But the media is trumping this shyt up like its the story of the year when really the audience wants them to move on.

Seriously. If someone needs to look towards the NFL to see if domestic violence is wrong, they're fukked in the heads anyways

It's funny how people are upset about a 2 game suspension.

But where was this same outrage when the NFL didn't suspend Riley Cooper for saying he would whoop nikkas ass.

Why didn't they say the NFL accept racist, since they didn't suspend him.

Most people(black and white) complained about him saying that and complained about the lack of consequences for him.

Ask his bytch. She was there and she was on his side. You weren't. fukk your opinion. I'm tired of hearing everyone's 2cents in their relationship

Very valid point. Why should anyone care if the victim doesn't?

what message are they trying to send? I long believed that the NFL shouldn't punish players on matters outside the playing field. Let the judicial system run it's course. Same with all sports leagues IMO

True but the NFL is in the spotlight and society takes cues from the leading 'entertainment' venue.

Exactly. I know its been said in other threads but Josh Gordon getting a year long suspension for smoking a few joints is 8x worse than Ray hitting his girl. Its implying that one is worse than the other and imo they picked the wrong subject matter to take a stand on.

But they arent really making a stand on the drug issue. That suspension length was written in the books and collectively bargained. So they can hand out drug suspensions all day and not even sweat because the punishments have been agreed upon.

The NFL not trying to put suspensions on the books for domestic abuse. I mean are you gonna get 1 game for shaking a bytch, 2 if you hit her but she not really that hurt, and 4 if you knock her out? Is the suspension reduced if she hit you first or if she has a weapon? How you think something like that gonna play with the feminists?
