Let it go. Africans have made it clear where they stand with us and until they (excluding Ghana who already has ofc) start opening their doors to us en masse then it's a moot point

We have business to take care of here and we have a culture that we've built here that we should be proud of. Don't undermine that. The rest of the world bites our style

My parents didn't, because like many African Americans they didn't know much about Africa. However, my older brother did. I think that he and his visited Liberia a lot before the Civil War.

My godmother is the daughter of a Black Panther. My mom is Afro-centric. She made sure her children knew their history and where they came from. We have a culture. We have a sense of identity. We have roots so that we can grow up strong.

It may not have been specific information but it was enough for us to grow an interest in Africa and to relate to it.
