the discussion around Australian animals being weird reminds me of a vid i watched recently
it was about dinosaurs but dude made the argument that dinosaurs from a certain area are no more weirder than the other dinosaurs......we just found out about them later so our perception is skewed
feel the same way about marsupials. like is a kangaroo really more weird than say....an elephant or giraffe. really we just "discovered" one after the other but all the adaptations and specializations of each species are unique in their own ways

they only exist because Australia was too far out and isolated from the rest of the world so they didn't participate in evolution properly enough with the rest of the planet. When this happens mutations occurs, like kangooros and wombats.
