The first thing you notice is the glasses but then you look at the facial hair & if you pull up Stokley images, he couldnt help it. He was a emulating machine.:francis:
He said Stokley looked mad, I think that has to be a shock when you look at an image like this flipping on the channels or seeing someone on stage w/ that voice:

Danny Boy wouldn't have survived the backlash from the Mint Hive if he was more known. I think if his debut came out, people would probably pay attention to how he sounds & his vocal runs.

But this is no diss to Danny, Stokley said he was able to escape his early eighties Prince emulation with developing over time & then getting signed AFTER he was able to overcome that , if he had been a solo artist in 1985 he would've sounded like "Ready for the world"

I like the album, but Quik & Devante didn't have the monopoly for radio at that time for outside R&B/Soul acts. Evidence of this is his collaborations with Debarge. Most of the collaborations are hooks not actual Debarge song. Deathrow never would've been able to launch a R&B artist like Danny Boy. Deathrow was already boxed in as the definitive "Gangsta Rap" label of this era. That's 2 strikes, the third strike is the fact that R Kelly season was in full swing. A bonus strike is, Stokley probably would've put him in the ER if DB had a massive hit. :mjcry:
