Its a great idea taken at face value, but Detroit has poor infrastructure. The roads are bad, schools are bad, city taxes are high, etc. Its hard to justify living in Detroit, when one of the surrounding suburbs is just as cheap, safer, and has better infrastructure. Also most of the cool stuff of the 60s - 80s that made living in the city of Detroit cool are gone. A single person buying up a cheap house in one of those neighborhoods is just putting a bullseye on their back. What surprises me is the Gen Z wfh crowd still living with their parents. They make money but not enough to buy a $350k house with 20% down at 7% interest. Take all y’all asses to Detroit and build a new community on the cheap![]()
While Detroit was on a downward trajectory before the subprime crisis, Obama and Geithner bailing out the banks instead of homeowners made things much worse, and we as black people need to acknowledge that black people in power aren't above fuq'ing us over.
