JHud's character was supposed to be the powerhouse but unmarketable singer while Deena was the more submissive, more marketable one who didn't have as good of a voice as Effie. She HELD BACK for the role.

The list lacks nuance but I agree with it overall. Much respect for recognizing Yebba. She's been putting in work for years and is an outstanding vocalist. These days, you'd be hard-pressed to find a legit vocalist among these young nikkas in the music industry. H.E.R, Victoria Monet, Ariana Grande, Coco Jones are legit technical singers. Well studied and very dynamic. Then you got people like Muni Long, Lucky Daye, Leon Thomas, Summer Walker, Ari Lennox. These guys can sing really well but will never blow you away with sheer vocal ability. Then the lackluster crowd, Ella Mai, SZA, Weeknd, Kehlani, etc. These are what I consider struggle vocalists. If you heard them singing on a street corner, you would pay them no mind.
But even still I havent heard a singer who can actually BLOW in this new gen yet. I'm talking like R. Kelly/Usher/Mariah/Brandy type shyt. Those types of singers don't seem to thrive in the mainstream anymore because commercial success is no longer predicated on pure vocal ability.

You're clueless. You and anyone else who thinks she's a better singer than Beyonce or even Cynthia Erivo like the video shows. Liking someone's voice better doesn't mean that they are actually better.
You just like her music and her production value better. She nowhere near the natural talent of Jennifer Hudson.

to be fair, dreamgirls is what you used to compare them was 20 yrs ago. beyonce, back then, wasnt as good as she is now, to me. she's worked on her craft and has gotten better. and i am not a fan of her music at all

I saw someone on here say that she's comparable to Chilli vocally. I had to get off the internet after that.
I miss her baby voice sometimes but love the richness of her current voice. She has fully mastered her craft.
