I recently got hooked up with a job getting paid really well for my field. I now get paid about double and sometimes triple my going rate. That's the pro to it. The cons are that there is no stability. People get fired for sneezing. There is no union. I have to travel up to 150 miles daily. No benefits. No pto

I just got a call from the mta. I passed their first. The second test is easy. The obvious con is the reduction in pay. And that I won't have the weekends off. The pro is that I'll be in a union with full benefits. Pension. Stability. The mta ain't shutting down no time soon

Do have to make the mta move right now?

Why not stack up with the current joint till u fed up and then do the mta?

No. I took one test in August. They called me today to take the next one in March. I don't know the process after that. It shouldn't take much longer after that if they decide to hire me.
My biggest issue is this. As much as I would love to work for them, I've never made this much and I won't ever make that much working with them. This is the first time I'm not living check to check. The last couple months is the first time I've been able to get myself whatever I wanted without caring what the price was. It is the first time I've been able to save.
I have been saving as much as I can. I have always wanted to work with them but shyt is going good for me right now. I know everybody here is claiming to make 6 figures but I could realistically make that this year while working 30 hours a week.
Doing this until I get tired of it and then joining the mta is not possible. They don't sit around and wait.

If MTA pays enough for you to still be comfortable, I'd probably go with it.

Seems like the benefits, stability, and less travel would probably make it worth it unless the pay is terrible. You don't want to spend years and years of your life working someplace you hate, especially if you get fired anyway. Plus benefits are important too, you never know if you might get sick or whatever .

:weirdo: 150 miles commute a day. I can't even commute 15 miles.

I dread driving 100 miles a month to see my girl, I rather she comes over. I couldn't do 150 miles everyday

Why don't u just move

What does mta stand for? I'm thinking Maryland transit authority.

Anyways I'm kinda biased towards the stacking bread option.
