No Fairy Tale: Artist Uses Disney Princesses To Spread Awareness About Domestic Violence
0 Shares By Reid 2 weeks ago

Artist Saint Hoax is changing the fairy tale ending we are all used to in Disney movies, by raising awareness with a domestic violence campaign featuring abused Disney princesses.

The campaign is called “Happily Never After” which, according to Hoax, features four Disney princesses - Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Jasmine and Ariel – like we’ve never seen them before. The abused princesses are shown with black eyes and blood coming from their faces.
The photos are beginning to get a lot of attention.

“I think the act of domestic violence itself is shocking,” said Hoax in a phone interview with ABC Action News Tuesday. “If we want to tackle it in any way we have to shock the audience in order for us to pass the message across.”

The goal of the campaign is to encourage victims to report their domestic violence cases to the authorities in order to prevent the incident from happening again.

“At the end of the day, this is something I did to influence people in a positive way,” he explained.

Hoax has not revealed his identity and doesn’t wish to anytime soon. He says he wants his artwork to do the talking for him.

As shocking and unnerving as these pictures are, the prevention of domestic violence is worth being shocked and unnerved about. Domestic violence shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone – not even Disney princesses.

while I'm all for awareness, I don't want to expose my offspring to that kind of advertising, because in a way those princesses will be associated with that in their minds from there-on-forward.

no different than showing effects of violent racism on blacks- in a way to show that repetitively subconsciously reifies the continual subordinative status in society. This is just a constant reminder of that active violence, and in time, can prove more detrimental because of the societal effects.
