I'm creating this thread because I think that diversity recruiting is a powerful tool that is very much underutilized. Just about every BB has programs dedicated to diversity initiatives, many of which are targeted toward freshmen/sophomores. Knowing that you missed a deadline is absolutely the worst feeling, so I figured that I could give back to WSO by creating an updated list of every program.
This thread is split up between fly-in programs, internship/scholarship programs, and recruitment organizations. Fly-in programs are essentially 2-day introductions to the firm where you get a chance to network with people across a variety of divisions through presentations, panels, and lunches. The idea of these programs is to provide you with a pipeline to start recruiting early and to have a huge leg-up when the time comes to apply for internships. Note that scholarships amounts are added on top of whatever your SA pay is for the summer.
Some additional notes: Many of these programs span across all divisions. some may only be geared toward IBD/S&T. Also note that falling under URM means that you are either African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, and/or Native American.
Please let me know if I'm missing any programs and I'll do my best to add them ASAP!
Fly-In Programs:
BAML Elevate Diversity Forum
Barclays Junior Success Program
Sponsors For Educational Opportunity (SEO)
This is a great organization for URMs that will help you tremendously if admitted. If you find them early enough, they'll help you during your freshman year and provide development opportunities to help you get an SA position lined up either in your sophomore or junior year. They partner with most BBs to get your name in front of recruiters and provide additional training 1-2 weeks before your respective BB SA training.
Management Leadership For Tomorrow (MLT)
Another great organization for URMs, but with much less of a focus on Wall Street careers. The partnerships/representation is there, but not nearly as finance-oriented as SEO. MLT is still a great program if you're looking to get your foot in the door to a more diverse set of corporate careers.
Other Organizations
There are a ton of other organizations out there (Ellevate, Jopwell, INROADS, etc.), but I decided not to include these because they are either fee-based or focused on BO roles. As previously mentioned, SEO is definitely the way to go if you're already gung-ho about finance, while MLT would be for those who are a little less certain about which industry they want to ultimately step into after college.
