Love the song but "Code Red" was the beginning of the End. Jazzy and Will just couldn't transition to the "HARD CORE" era. But I do like this song and "Boom shake, shake, shake the room", lol.

I hate the hate Will gets as a rapper. He's always been a talented guy in the "purest" sense of rapping. It's always been disingenuous to me that people would praise Rapper's Delight, but hate Will

His flow was dope on the Christopher Williams joint but most of the album his flow was :trash:. Being a actor 24/7 at the time hurt his music but the album had dope azz production for the most part.

As for Boom Shake The Room, song was corn but I still love the beginning of the of the 3rd verse when FP starts the stutter flow. I remember cats clowning me for buying Code Red(JJ & FP Stan)..."U still rockin with them cornball niccas"
:mjlol:. Yeah that era was rough for them. :manny:

^^^^

Yeah by the time "Code Red" dropped he was basically turning into an Actor full time. But I never understood why "Big Willie Styles" was a solo album. That album should of been a Fresh Prince and Jeff reunion album. But of course Will going solo was huge. But Will was smart, he became a Blockbuster Movie Star then dropped an album. It's still mindblowing "Big Willie Style" sold 9x Platinum.

The album didn't even break out the gate like that. The owner of this independent record store just gave me the promo album a week b4 it's street date like "here take this sh!t". No one knew that Getting Jiggy Wit It would blast that album into the stratosphere...album was :trash: though.

Also Will has to be given more credit for Hip Hop in the mainstream. He was going Multi-Platinum in the 80's and The Fresh Prince Theme Song brought rap into households all around the world in countries who wouldn't be listening to rap otherwise. Also him protesting the 1st Hip Hop grammy was huge even though they still only televise one catagory.

I actually blame Eminem for people hating on Will Smith as an emcee. Yes people always viewed him as family friendly or Pop but I actually think Will comes from that old school 80's style of Hip Hop which was about having fun and break dancing etc. I agree that Will sounded a little "Holier than Thou" with his "I don't have to curse to sell records" speech. But I think his point was there are different ways to be successful in the rap game. What's funny is Eminem was clearly influenced by Will. Those Early Slim Shady videos are Fresh Prince knockoffs.

Actually "Men in Black" single was huge and drove the album. But your right, "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" just blew up something crazy and the album starting selling like hot cakes. The video even had a catching dance that caught on. Then "Miami" blew up too so yea it was like a domino effect. But I disagree, the album wasn't "Trash". I'd give it about 3.5 MICS. NaS laced Will and some of the beats the Trackmasters dropped was off the chain:

I was a huge JJ & FP fan but I hated that trend of rappin over popular 80s joints. That album was full of them plus Will stop writing his own rhymes full time. I guess it depends on if you like that style Will was on at the time whether you like the album or not.

It dropped in 93' and was the last Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff album. It was a huge departure from their previous albums cause they were competing with all the "hardcore" acts so Will was rapping way more aggressive but the album was considered a Flop coming off their previous album that won them a Grammy for Summertime. The album actually still went Gold and the single "Boom Shake" went Gold also which for that time that's not bad. LOL, even the cover Will was trying to look hard:
