from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
It's true for 99.9% of rappers with mainstream success...

Hip Hop lyrics, for the most part, are NOT well thought out..Rappers think of a clever bar, and place among a whole bunch of bars that are not really
saying anything
...

Hip Hop lyrics are similar to pick-up lines, if the fans like your image, then the line is DOPE, if they don't, then the line is CORNY...

You just have to look at the example of Papoose, 80% of what he spits would be considered dope if it was being delivered by Drake, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Nas, J Cole, Kendrick and such...

But because he is Papoose, he is kind of a caricature and parody in the eyes of many internet hip hop fans...

Another example is Canibus...Personally, I can listen to Canibus even if he was spitting over beats made with garbage bins and pots and pans...Because his level of writing is WAY beyond the average rapper...

You can't freestyle a song like Poet Laureate II...That takes a lot of effort and thought process...

And yet when mainstream hip hop fans discuss lyricists, I have NEVER heard Canibus' name being mentioned... :mjlol:

Are you implying that the verse DMX spit in the vid was not well thought out and he wasn't really saying anything?? Why?? I thought he said a lot in that freestyle and he conveys his message prerty clearly...Cant take anything away from him just because he didn't use a bunch of big words, metaphors and similes.. Thats silly logic if you ass me... .. I dont think I speak for myself when I say that when I listen to lyrics i'm focusing on the message of what the guy is actually saying and how well it ties into the subject of the song.. , im not too focused on how clever they can rhyme two big words together followed by a metaphor.

Man what happened to vita I'd still eat it

Yeah, she was fine. I remember she was in Method Man's video "Break Up to Make Up" and also she was in Belly movie when she's giving DMX a blow job in the car.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
His delivery makes his lyrics seem bigger than what they really are...

If you were reading them on paper, you would have to be undereducated to think that they were academia level lyrics...
Academia level lyrics?..what does that even mean?..Dudes lyrics was solid..well thought out and creative..he ain't always use big words but that nikka had immaculate storytelling ability and his lyrics was on point...painted a picture and he got across what he wanted to say clearly..he was a good lyricist...period...x had bars..he used to even battle nikkas..such as Jay Z..and win..u really don't know what u talkin bout fam..

(1) Academia means
  1. academic life: scholars and students of the academic world and their activities.
Basically, if you have higher level of education, you are not going to read DMX' lyrics and be mind blown form them...However, you may still have an appreciation of what he is saying if you understand the context of ghetto life and hip hop music...

So what am I am stating? I am stating that DMX had just as good lyrics as any given MC from New York (before the Southernation of Hip Hop)...His delivery just makes the words MORE potent than they truly are...

It is the passion in his voice, the tone of his voice, his flow and etc that really inflate the words...

(2) If you really want to understand what I am stating...You need to find Canibus' lyrics and compare them to DMX' and maybe you will have a better understanding of my statements...

I am saying that DMX is a good lyricist in the context of Hip Hop, but not beyond that...He is as good as 2Pac, Jay Z, Eminem, Nas, Biggie, 50Cent and who ever else you think is a good lyricist...

Canibus is just better than all the people I listed and then some...In terms of his vocabulary and word usage, but all that is useless in Hip Hop (Hip Hop doesn't respect Canibus) when you don't have the proper image and delivery...

That's all I am stating...

Yeah, if you have a great charisma you can sell your stuff easier to the audience. Dmx's vocabulary isn't too rich but his character is a big part of his rap game.

People are into listening to authorities, the same shyt that is spit by some famous rapper will be considered better than by some underground fella.

I find it funny when celebrities make videos to help people out, I mean it's good that they do this but it's bad if ordinary people who knew the problems before would start doing something just because the famous people told them to. The power of authority.
