i would have to say...NO.
Ofcourse not...70% of this country is white and privileged and doesn't even have an idea. Infact I would say the intellectual class of America and all of these politicals pundits have done the greatest disservice to American citizens by normalizing the unthinkable due to their lack of knowledge on fascism.

My red flags have been going off hard for the past year. You have never been closer to Fascism in America as we have at this moment.

Don't listen to people like @DEAD7 they just want to lull you to sleep and give you a false sense of hope that "it can't happen here" and tell you that everything is fine when it isn't. Anybody who believes in American exceptionalism to do the right thing in the face of fascism is going to get an unpleasant surprise. That's just as bad as Chris Hayes and Anderson Cooper and all these other pundits and news journalists who don't want to call fascism what it is.

People who survived fascist collapses in countries all over the world are terrified at what's happening to America right now.

We have a president that's absolutely refusing to acknowledge a peaceful transfer of power in once a non-peaceful continuation of it.
Throwing kids in cages ripping out women's reproductive organs instituting racist travel Bans supporting right-wing domestic terrorist that killed in his name.

This is not normal politics.
Let me tell you it nauseates me when I see that Trump cartoon Comedy Central did a couple years ago and when I see that picture of Jimmy Fallon touching Trump's head like a child.

America has normalized this fascist bullshyt by assuming Trump is just another president.

Not that I disagree but it is a misnomer to lay everything going wrong in this country @ Trump. We didn't just get here out of dumb luck we progressed here mainly due to pols ignoring what the people who elected them want.

America has normalized this fascist bullshyt by assuming Trump is just another president.

And by being caught up in the theater while his predecessors from both parties cemented the modern fascistic framework for him to operate in with much less reservation about it.

Trump has exposed what this country has always been beneath the surface.

Fear mongering has become the lefts go to strategy. shyts disgusting.
If you have to frighten people to get them to side with you, you and your argument are trash.

Moreover, anyone who truly believes we live under a fascists state is completely untethered from reality.
OP is summed up nicely by Orwell... George Orwell wrote in 1944 that "the word 'Fascism' is almost entirely meaningless ... almost any English person would accept 'bully' as a synonym for 'Fascist'".

This sounds a bit sensational to me. Americans may not generally understand a lot of things, but I don't see how enforcing immigration law, allowing women control over reproduction, and an inept President qualifies as fascism, now (none of these are unique to Trump's presidency).

Also, I don't know if a truly fascist state would bother with keeping up the facade of democratic elections, two party system, etc.

There's a lot wrong with the US, I agree. But I'd need a better argument put forth if I'm to be sold in it now becoming fascist :yeshrug:

You could tick off most if not all of those boxes pre-Trump. The issue is that while people like the neocons and neolibs were looking up to people like Regan for how he was able to rob the working class blind relatively peacefully, Trump's hero is Andrew Jackson, who funny enough inspired Hittler. People keep comparing him to the latter when we still have this genocidal maniac on our money.......

He's trying to emulate one of our founding fathers.

"Societies that once were open and had democratic traditions are easy prey for the enemies of democracy. These demagogues pay deference to the patriotic ideals, rituals, practices and forms of the old democratic political system while dismantling it. When the Roman Emperor Augustus—he referred to himself as the “first citizen”—neutered the republic, he was careful to maintain the form of the old republic.- Chris Hedges
