My sister (God rest her soul) use to do this "scratching" thing when her throat itched. She died when her daughter was a baby but I caught her (my niece) doing it one time when I went to visit and when I asked why she's doing it, she said her throat itches. I kinda laughed in astonishment and looked at my mama but I could tell it hit her different

My dad told me all the time how much I am a homebody just like his father, and I got my flat feet from his momma. That’s all I know :manny:

Emotional detachment.

In my family there used to be quite a few kids that didn't make it to adulthood due to illness (back then mainly the flu) so I think there was a kind of detachment that parents developed towards the kids to protect themselves from the grief if and when that happened. And ironically there were also kids in my family who did make it to adulthood but who had lost a parent or had been separated from a parent by that time due to illness (usually Cancer or heart attacks) so it was much harder for them to form good attachments to other people because of the loss at a young age.

So in my family there is this generational form of emotional detachment that can go both ways from parent to child and from child to parent mainly due to tragedy/loss. My own mother and brother died young so I am a "victim" of this kind of emotional detachment as well.
