Here we go again…”positive” is in the eye of the beholder.

What was “positive” about Martin and Living Single?

You can’t go be a doctor or policeman because you don’t see it on TV? (Nevermind they got HELLA shows with Black people as Doctors and Police)

Dont we remember that when all those shows she talked about were on, people wanted more “real” stuff?

Positive is A Different World increasing Black enrollment in colleges.
What more do you seek??

What was wrong with Martin? It was a show about a working radio DJ/talk show host who lived life in Detroit with his wife and friends. Wasn't any drugs, murders,or overly sexualized behavior.

Living single was about a group of black women navigating life. The main character owned her own magazine company. 1 was a lawyer.

Yes you can be those things without it being on tv, but people would have more interest if they saw those professions on someone who looks like them. Ur really acting like you don't know the powers of what you are shown on tv on a daily basis

A positive message doesn't have to be overly stated. Watching a show where blacks wasn't viewed in a negative view is positive.

U sound white.
earlier this year they made it seem like Martin was a colorist

Damn, what [high production/network style] scripted black shows we got right now - Vince staples? The neighborhood and Abbott are like half black, but I’ll count them I guess. All the Starz trash and The Chi. I’m drawing a blank beyond that

I have noticed when there is a black family together something always happens to split them apart. It happened in Gen V. It was nice to see a black family, in tact, and happy and then the story happened and
the girl ended up killing both her parents by mistake.
It put a bad taste in my mouth and eventually I stopped caring.

It's like you can tell what the writers want to see and don't want to see. It's so obvious.

Here's the scene:

IIRC this is the introduction, they couldn't even last a full episode.

That’s not what she said, though. She said Black families. Martin and Gina wasn’t married until half the show was over - remember that?
That was a major story arc in that series…both Gina and Martin’s parents different approve of that. Nobody wants to talk about that I bet.
See that’s the thing - “positive“ means different things to everybody.

Living single was about a group of black women navigating life. The main character owned her own magazine company. 1 was a lawyer.

Living Single was about 3 thots who couldn’t keep no man…and Synclaire.
And they always made fun of Synclaire for not being a thot. That’s fine because one is a lawyer and one has a struggle hip-hop magazine, though.
That’s “positive” enough, I guess.

Oh - there wasn’t a “family” on there either like Ol’ Girl was saying. So again - what is she really trying to say?

What I’m “really acting like” is tell me why we don’t have as many nuclear Black families if nuclear Black family shows on TV is what we love and want to see?
Where’s all the Black Dry Cleaners like George Jefferson?
How many brothers became sanitation workers because of Roc?
