I thought this was a thing that white people created for themselves. It doesn't really have a context among black people.

I recall reading article about it ages ago and the origin of the rule had some :mjpls: undertones

Idk about the origins, and I’m not even a “that’s cac shyt” dude generally, but this is one of the few I haven’t ever witnessed IRL. I’ve just assumed it had to be an affluent white thing

I sincerely didn’t know this was a thing until I was putting on a white cap and a chic told me that shyt and tried to joke me…this was mad years ago tho…still don’t know why it’s a “rule” or what it signifies…I asked her at the time and only got “because” lol

Hear it a lot here in the north. Usually because the weather starts going downhill afterwards. Doesn't make sense to wear white in the snow.

, the rule was invented in the nineteenth century by an elite group as a way to use fashion to separate those with money from those without. When the summer months were over, affluent residents would leave the city for warmer vacation spots. Wearing white represented that you could afford to get out of the city and vacation elsewhere when summer ended.

Since Labor Day typically represents the end of summer, a 'rule' was established that you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day if you didn't have the money to take fall and winter vacations.

So it was a way to tell who wasn’t passport gang
