I wish more people would pick up a history book and realize most of Revelation is coded language for the Roman Empire and the certainty that it would fall while God and his people would always stand strong.
It is NOT about the end times except for the promise of a new heaven and a new Earth at the end, it's a dramatic way of portraying the judgement of the current empire right then and there. This was a common use of the language in that time, like in Daniel and a lot of other contemporary books. It's only later, more ignorant commentators who lost track of the historical understanding and thought it must be all about them, horse-headed killer grasshoppers and all.
You really think God gives John a revelation where 90% is gonna be completely irrelevant to him or anyone else who reads it for the next 2000 years?
Same problem happens in Mark 13, which is obviously about the destruction of Jerusalem in symbolic language (which did end up happening, much like that, in AD 70), but which modern people want to distort into a second coming prophecy.
What Is the Book of Revelation About?
