Do you consider rapping a respectable profession?

Like if you had a son who was academically gifted and had potential to go to an Ivy, but simultaneously was dropping hot ish on the streets and generating a buzz, let us for argument's sake it is certain he will seal a deal, which profession would you prefer him to take up?

You have to allow people to do what'll make them happy.

Lauryn went to an Ivy, and was able to become one of the most important voices in music history, period. She left school to pursue a love of hers, music.

I respect anyone that's able to do what they truly love for a living. Makin' music is art, you're being creative and touching lives. It doesn't get any more respectable than that, unless you're saving lives. But how many times have these artists heard that a song of theirs helped someone get through some problem? Of course, it's respectable. As long as you're being true to yourself and have the right intentions, you're good.

hip hop is an entire culture based off of respect...it's just certain cats came along that lacked self respect and respect for others that tarnished the reputation. but the origins of the culture is all about respect and letting your voice be heard. you can really lead the people as an MC, granted you have the right backing, the right music, and the right intentions.

I would assess the mind state of the person before passing judgement. For some I would look at it in the same light of any other entrepreneurial endeavor, while others I would be looking at like an overzealous hobbyist

It can be, as it's a respectable form of art. Does that mean all rappers are picasso? No. So I respect the art, and the profession, but too many wannabes and imposters b*stardizing the art.

When you realize that both going to an Ivy League school and rapping while being signed to a label both leads to the aim to make money then the choice he makes shouldn't even matter.
