or do certain ppl who have listened to hiphop for years jus more aware of certain rhyme schemes/patterns like internals,AbAb,etc. yall think the average dope boy who never finished high school that mainly listens to Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka can grasp the intricateness of an Elzhi,Phonte or Lupe verse??

Gucci does have intricate patterns, I think. The average listener can recognize them, but just isn't breaking it down like that, though, and thinking why it sounds fly; most likely to them, it just does and they're cool with that.

I don't really think so, look at ronzo

I was talking to a friend in the whip yesterday, and he told me "I don't even listen to the lyrics in hip-hop, just the beats"

great topic phonzhi and i agree with everything u just said and this is correct.

imo u have to be smart because u have to know how to properly label a rhyme scheme and even know the correct defintion of a rhyme scheme

like most of this dudes on here don't even know what rhyme scheme is but yet want to talk about who the better rapper is and argue about that shyt. when most of the arguement about who is the better " artist " and who makes better songs but not who is the better lyricist.

and even the ones who claim to be some " rhyme expert" like for example fresh aig but don't know shyt about rhyming techniques. which is laughable because in this day and age where most people have a computer and internet u can research that shyt. if u don't have a computer take yo ass to the
library and research that shyt because have no right to discuss who is the better rapper if u don't know what a rhyme scheme is.

I think you do. At the same time, some people are smart but lazy. Lazy people dont want to bother with intricate rhyme schemes either. The majority like to be spoon-fed or just want to hear a beat and a silly ass rhyme. Rhyme schemes and patterns are for those who value lyricism and cherish poetry and wordplay when presented in its highest form.

:ld:u probably right bruh. everyone doesn't VALUE lyricism and could care less about crazy wordplay and how many syllables that one can rhyme

Personally, I think you cant appreciate most lyrically complex rhymes unless you have a good knowledge of the conventions of literature itself. Metaphor, allegory, etc. play a major role in lyrically adept verses.

I dont really think people can appreciate Wu-Tang unless they are intelligent.

Do I think so ?
Hells yes.
To write really complex schemes you have to
have a hold on the English language.
Listen to dudes like Elzhi or Crooked I.

They often use multiple definitions for words.
Inner rhyme, end rhyme, beginning rhyme, metaphor
etc.
To say some really crazy shyt all while flowing on beat
and injecting emotion.
Royce is really good at that especially when he does his Pac
impersonation.

Using multiple definitions, metaphor and the like allows them to go beyond just
rhyme schemes, you can rhyme words forever but eventually you'll stop being
coherent thus the need to use metaphor, simile or a punchline to keep your point.
Sh1t gets even harder when you're telling a story or sticking to a
theme/topic.

yes i agree with the first part because even for example eminem did not even finish high school but he read the dictionary not a rhyme dictionary
but a regular dictionary. and he eventually went back and got his g.e.d.
so it makes sense now when i think about how he is such a great lyricist
with his pronouncation and enuncation with his rhymes and flow.

and as far as rhyming complex and sticking to a topic for a entire verse all the great mc's do it pac did it nas did it etc

u just have to do it in a logical strcuture that makes sense.
