the global economy is too intertwined, interdependency between nations too entrenched, for ww3 to happen on the scale we saw with ww1 and ww2. the presence of nukes, which would wipe away any spoils to be won in such a conflict, makes it unlikely that major nations will confront each other directly.
you won’t see nato engaging in direct conflict with russia or china. instead, as we observe in ukraine, major powers will deploy their material support for proxy wars against hostiles.
the real threat we face is internal strife that paves the way for the rise of fascism. as the suffering from late stage capitalism’s ravages continues taking its toll on the working poor and bourgeois, fascist alternatives to our current order will look more appealing.
