Ive like never seen death grips get talked about on here ..
There's been a good few threads on them, mostly in the alt mysic section cos death grips is obvs a group that wouldn't get play in the booth...
And to the op, i can genuinely say dg have been my 2nd favourite hip hop act for the past couple years (ugly mane being my favourite) and i have seen them live twice and their live show is 20x better than their recorded stuff...best shows i've ever been too, their ultra intense...they've actually managed to get a rep for being a top 10 live act in the world so....
But anyway, i wouldn't hold it against anyone saying they didnt fucc with their stuff at all, its really not for everyone, not that that makes it any more special or better, just is what it is
I would say to anyone to really just give their stuff some time to sink in, its not an immediate type of music...and start with exmilitary because its the easiest album of their to digest and the most straight fwd in terms of hip hop
I will say though thats a problem for me is that with government plates and even moreso now with nikkas on the moon is that theyve kinda forgot that you can make progessive 'avant garde' music that still has rhythm and a danceable aspect to it...which was a subtle beauty in their earlier stuff..also, they've started to forgot to make actual songs
most of the stuff on nikkas on the moon sound like rough sketches rather than paintings
Last point ill make is i'll always defend dg no matter what they do because they got me interested again in hip hop and even if you dont like their stuff, we need acts like them around to expand the box of what hip hop cos otherwise the genre will just stagnate
